Exams 2021 and beyond – Council policy

by Policy

October 13, 2020

At a Zoom assisted meeting on 13th October, 27 Council members met to hear from the General Secretary of the Association of School and College Leaders (ASCL)Association of School and College Leaders (ASCL), Geoff Barton and Tom Sherrington from the Headteachers’ Roundtable on their ideas for GCSE and A level exams in 2021 and their replacement in the longer term.

Within the Council there are strong views in favour of the early replacement of exams by a system of moderated teacher assessment but there is also an acknowledgement that exams cannot simply be abolished without a well thought-out replacement.

The Council will now be discussing positive proposals to present as policy. The subject is now open for discussion in the Forum.
